A Media Coup...Again
ABC News teams up with Kamala Harris for the latest hatchet job on Trump.
What ABC News managed to do during the Tuesday evening presidential debate was to prove once again that Trump was right, at least on one major theme: "If the fake news would become real and honest news, 90% of our problems in this country would be solved.”1
It’s not surprising in the aftermath of the most tendentious presidential debate in recent memory that Kamala Harris is getting high marks for exceeding very low expectations. Trump, meanwhile, is being attacked for not ‘bringing back the joy’—though, as usual, he delivered many more memorable one-liners.
The former President appeared angry because he IS angry, insisting the state of the union is ‘nothing to smile about’ and I suspect that may resonate far more than many think. It might do the pundits (including Republicans who never liked the former President) some good to recall that in 2016 Hillary Clinton was immediately declared the victor in her debate with Trump.2
To be sure, this debate won’t go down as another Kennedy versus Nixon in 1960 for policy details. The former President was typically light on his and Harris had none at all.
It would’ve helped had Trump explained why ‘the country is going to hell’ and how it will get even worse under Harris. For example, an additional $4.6 trillion in taxes on top of the largest spending and deficit blowout in history, resulting in a $35 trillion debt; an untethered Federal Reserve continuing to devalue the dollar; a forced transition to a ‘green economy’ outsourcing American manufacturing; and the return of a leviathan tax and regulatory state, including an unprecedented levy on ‘unrealized’ investment jeopardizing any future deployment of risk capital.3
Yet the former President doesn’t feel he has to explain something to an American electorate that already knows it.4 Instead, he’s banking on repetition for retention. He may be right. More than any other election, the right track/wrong track question will determine the outcome.
The elites backing Harris think transforming the country into something our grandparents wouldn’t recognize is ‘progressive.’ There’s no illegal immigrant crime wave where they live. What’s not to like? Why, Taylor Swift is far more upset at being called a ‘childless cat lady’ than having a Venezuelan gang member eat one of them—her cats, that is.5
