Recall ABC’s David Muir and his erroneous fact-checking that seemed to suggest the underreporting of crime means it’s going down.1 If history’s any guide, look for more of the same from CBS in tonight’s VP debate between Senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz.
Though it may be hard to spin last Wednesday’s confirmation from ICE Deputy Director Patrick Lechleitner that at least 435,000 ‘non-detained’ illegal immigrants with criminal convictions have been wandering around the country. To wit:
As of July 21, 2024, there were 662,566 non-citizens with criminal histories on ICE’s national docket [data or NDD] which includes those detained by ICE, and on the agency’s non-detained docket. Of those, 435,719 are convicted criminals, and 226,847 have pending criminal charges.2
