'You can't close your eyes anymore'
By default, the GOP has no choice but to tackle the social issues head on.
Anyone who’s ever had a graduate class in social science would recognize the postmodern lingo in the title—Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity. The ‘peer reviewed’ piece was perfectly suited to a professoriate claiming “scientists had no special claim to scientific knowledge” and “so-called facts about the physical world were mere social or political constructs.”1
Acknowledging as much, wrote the enlightened physicist, would finally pave the way for “liberatory science” and “emancipatory mathematics.”2 It was widely hailed and eagerly published in the journal Social Text.3
Only one problem—what came to be known as Sokal’s Hoax was in fact a biting parody on the dangers of denying nature in academic circles. The embarrassment was quickly buried and the unrelenting assault on truth continues under the guise of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion or DEI.
Indeed, the gaslighting is everywhere. Trump colluded with Russia; Biden is coherent; Hunter’s laptop was fake; the border’s secure; debt doesn’t matter; crime and inflation are down; insurance is affordable; COVID lockdowns worked; parents are terrorists and the unborn deserve no protection.
But nowhere is the suspension of reality more glaring than in DEI’s gender wars. Biological facts don’t matter; sex isn’t binary; men and women are just ‘social constructs.’ You are whatever you perceive or ‘identify’ as.
Bring in the ‘furries.’
We have crossed the Rubicon into fantasyland and our kids are paying the price. In fact, there was a time when ‘transitioning’ minors with drugs and surgery might have been considered child abuse. Perhaps that’s why some public schools and gender-affirming clinics are hiding it from parents.4 Nevertheless, it has become the Holy Grail of a new counterculture.
